The Association was formed in 1998 with the amalgamation of the Lothian Amateur F.A. and the Edinburgh Amateur F.A.
The Association maintains a policy of affording everyone in the Edinburgh and Lothians the opportunity to play in organised competition at their own level. It is the largest Association in Scotland now having over 120 member clubs and since the merger has been able to boast of having the Scottish Amateur Cup winners, the East of Scotland Cup winners and in Season 2009/10 the South of Scotland Cup winners in Newtongrange Star A.
The Lothian & Edinburgh AFA upholds the objects of amateur football to promote, foster and develop the game of Association football by offering both new and established clubs and their players the platform to perform at a level which suits them.
The Association operates a Saturday Section and a Sunday Section. The Saturday Section has 6 divisions - Premier 1, Premier 2, Lothian West and Lothian East, Edinburgh West and Edinburgh East. The Sunday Section continues to grow from its inception just a couple of seasons ago and we are pleased to welcome clubs from the Edinburgh Sunday Amateur FA for Season 2011 - 12. The Sunday Section now has 5 divisions - Sunday Morning, Premier Divisions 1 & 2, and Division 1 West), and Division 1 (East).
The Association is going from strength to strength and the growing popularity of the Association is reflected in the admission of 20 new clubs over our Saturday and Sunday Sections for the coming season (apart from those being intergrated from the Edinburgh Sunday Amateur FA). It is our hope that all our clubs and players enjoy their football at whatever level whether or not they are successful at competition level.
Due to the increase in the number of clubs the Association is seeking to add to its list of referees. Any official interested in offering his/her services to this rapidly growing Association should contact Charles Gallacher (Saturday) on 01506 654974 or Paul Campbell (Sunday) on 07546
